Former professional midfielder most notable for his five-year stint with Bayern Munich, where he played in over 100 matches. He primarily played in Germany during his 18-year career. He later began coaching the German men's national team.
He first began playing soccer as a young child. He eventually joined the BSC Mückenloch youth squad in 1971 at the age of five.
He won four Bundesliga titles during his playing career with Bayern. He also won the the 1987 European Cup Final.
