Japanese supercentenarian who became Japan's oldest living person after Kane Tanaka passed away in 2022. She was also one of the world's oldest living people in history, and her age has been validated by the Guinness World Records organization.
She practiced the art of Japanese tea ceremony and flower arrangement after graduating from elementary school, in addition to working on her family's orchard.
Her only injury was a break to her femur, which happened after a fall while gardening; she has a passion for growing chrysanthemum flowers. She became only the 27th person in history to reach the age of 116 and was only the seventh Japanese person to do so.
She was the fifth out of six children born to her parents. Her husband died when she was 55 years old. She has had at least one daughter and one son.
