Classic American composer who is best remembered for the marching anthem "Blaze-Away!" He also composed "Spirit of Independence" in 1912 and he also composed "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Rules The World." He is credited with writing over 15 notable songs throughout his career.
He learned how to write music in Germany. One of his earliest pieces is 1899's "Smokey Mokes."
He was the manager of the Orchestra Department at Jerome Remick & Company. He was an early member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. He was also a member of the Freemasonry, the Elks, and the Knights of Pythias.
He married Isabelle Fishblatt in 1908. They had a daughter named Natalie Holzmann.
He wrote "Blaze-Away!" as a tribute to Theodore Roosevelt.
