Famous for her femme fatale roles in German movies of the 1930s and '40s, she is perhaps even more remembered for her career as a recording Artist, during which she became known for singles such as "Davon Geht die Welt Nicht Unter" and "Ich Weiss, es Wird Einmal ein Wunder Geschehen."
In the early 1930s, she began her rise to fame after performing in a production of the operetta The Merry Widow.
She was strongly criticized for becoming a contracted Artist with Universum Film AG -- an entertainment company that was owned by Hitler's Nazi government.
Born Sara Stina Hedberg, she spent her childhood in Karlstad, Sweden. Between 1926 and 1978, she was married three times: to Nils Leander (with whom she had two children), Vidar Forsell, and Arne Hulphers.
Early in her career, she recorded a cover of the Marlene Dietrich hit "Falling in Love Again."
