Chinese chess grandmaster who became one of the highest rated female players of all time. She has won the Women's World Chess Championship numerous times. At the age of 14, she became the youngest female player ever to earn the title of grandmaster.
She developed an interest in chess at the age of 3 and began playing the game on a regular basis at the age of 5.
She took a job as a professor at Shenzhen University in 2020. At just 26, she was the school's youngest professor ever up to that point. She semi-retired in 2018. Her honors also include being named in one of the BBC's 100 Women program in 2017, a series that examines the role of women in the 21st century.
Her parents, Xuejian Hou and Wang Qian, encouraged her early interest in chess.
