About

Japanese composer and sound engineer best known for his work on the soundtrack, as well as the acclaimed 1995 role-playing game Chrono Trigger. He also composed the soundtracks to 1998's Xenogears and 1999's Chrono Cross. In the mid 2000s, he began composing for anime series and films, including Inazuma Eleven: Orion no Kokuin, and Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic.

Before getting his big break with the Chrono Trigger soundtrack, he created sound effects for games such as Final Fantasy V and Secret of Mana. His introduction to music came early, as he took piano lessons at the age of 5.

He has cited Vangelis's Blade Runner soundtrack as one of his musical inspirations. His music from Chrono Trigger was performed live for the first time by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 1996. He went on to found his own music production studio and record company in 2001.

His father and sister encouraged his study of music.

Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu helped him finish the Chrono Trigger soundtrack after he became ill due to overwork.
