Luxembourger lawyer and politician who is best known for serving as Prime Minister of Luxembourg since 2013 and a member of the Democratic party. From 1999 to 2013, he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies and from 2011 to 2013, the Mayor of Luxembourg City.
He completed his secondary school studies at Lycée Hélène Boucher. He obtained a master's degree in Public and European Law and a DEA in Political Science and Public Law from Nancy 2 University. He also studied maritime law as well as canon law at Aristotle University.
He became the first openly gay prime minister in the world to be reelected for a second term in 2018. In the early 2000s, he hosted the talk show Sonndes em 8. His Twitter account Xavier Bettel has gained over 110,000 followers.
His parents are Aniela Bettel and Claude Bettel. His mother is the grandniece of the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. In 2015, he married Gauthier Destenay.
