Japanese economist who served as the 29th Governor of the Bank of Japan. He resigned from his position in 2008. He is known for having implemented a policy of monetary easing that slowed the deflationary pressures that had plagued the Japanese economy since the early 1990s.
He studied law at the University of Tokyo.
