Mubariz Gurbanoglu is a Turkish businessman and founder of the Palmali Group of Companies, which has interests in dairy products, media, resorts, airplanes and Palmali Navigation, its biggest division. He began his career in the Soviet secret service and then bought his first ships for a fifth of their value during privatization. His navigation company now has oil transport contracts with Russian oil giant Lukoil and Socar, Azerbaijan's state-owned oil company. In 2013, he partnered with two other Turkish billionaires to buy the TVK shipyard and to have Ferit Sahenk's food and beverage brands operate inside his Palmarina marina. He is of Azerbaijani descent and changed his last name to Gurbanoglu when he became a Turkish citizen. He also has an impressive antique weapons collection with more than 600 pieces.
