After working as a designer in the UK briefly, Jonathan Jony Ive moved to the US to work for Apple in the early 90s. He is currently Apple's Senior Vice President of Industrial Design and designed such instantly recognizable Apple products as the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone, and the MacBook, among others. He was born Jonathan Paul Ive in London in 1967. Jony Ive studied at Newcastle Polytechnic and began working at several London-based design companies before landing at Apple in 1992. He assumed his role as Senior VP of Industrial Design five years later once Steve Jobs returned to the company. Ive worked on Apple's hardware and his first product was the iMac. He'd go on to work on the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, several editions of the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad and its Mini counterpart, and iOS7. Ive operates a closely-guarded lab at Apple that only few are able to access. That lab is home to all of Apple's ideas and prototypes. Leander Kahney wrote an unofficial biography of Ive, titled "Jony Ive: The Genius Behind Apple's Greatest Products". He is the winner of a handful of awards, including Designer of the Year from Design Museum in 2003, Product Designer of the Year from "GQ" in 2007 and the National Design Award the same year.
