Political figure recognized for having served as the President of Malta. He is a member of the country's Labour Party and he served as the deputy prime minister of Malta before becoming the President.
He was a medical student at the Royal University of Malta.
He launched his career in politics in 1976. He later became a substitute member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Malta has been inhabited since approximately 5900 BC. He has been a supporter of the Campaign for the Establishment of a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly, which advocates for democratic reformation of the UN.
