She began writing as a child and published her first literary works during her high school and college years.
She earned a Master's degree in counseling in 1970 and subsequently worked as a psychotherapist.
She was born in Toronto, Ontario. She had four children and several grandchildren.
She and Michele Landsberg, a fellow Canadian author, both wrote feminist-themed works.
