Modernist Painter known for his portraits and landscapes. His later work focused on religious motifs. He was awarded the Vladimir Nazor Award for lifetime achievement in the visual arts in 1969.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. His first exhibition took place at the inaugural Zagreb Spring Salon in 1916.
He was influenced by the artistic work of The Munich Four, and he also experimented with expressionism and cubism.
His mother died when he was only three years old. He would often speak of her to his wife and how her memory haunted him.
