In 1988 she became the first Chinese player to win an international chess competition at the World Girls Under-12 Championship.
She twice won the World Junior Girls Chess Championship in 1994 and 1996.
As a child Prodigy, her family was very supportive of her pursuit of chess.
She paved the way for other Chinese players in international competition such as Bu Xiangzhi.
