Japanese film and television actor who appeared in Detective Story and The Family Game, both of which won Hochi Film Awards. In 1989, he appeared in Kareinaru Tsuiseki with Florence Griffith-Joyner.
He started his acting after graduating from high school and joined many theatre companies, including Bungakuza.
He changed his citizenship from Korean to Japanese in 1973.
He was married to Miyuki Kumagai from 1983 until his death in 1989. They had one child and he also had another child from a previous marriage.
The last film he starred in was Ridley Scott's 1989 film, Black Rain.
