Umit Unal is a Turkish writer, director, and actor born in 1965 in Tire, Izmir, Turkey. He graduated from 9 Eylul University with a degree in TV-Cinema and began shooting short films while in school. His first movie, 'Dokuz', was Turkey's official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Category at the 75th Annual Academy Awards (2003). He is a highly talented director who is known for his psychological movies, and his first scenario for the movie 'Teyzem' was awarded by Milliyet Newspaper.
