1997

After minor film roles and guest starring in various sitcoms, McGee got her first reoccurring TV role as Angela Moore in Boy Meets World in 1997. Her character's interracial relationship with Rider Strong's character Shawn Hunter was a relative rarity for a major network television show, especially one whose target demographic was youths. McGee and Strong had an age difference of 10 years. McGee once remarked that the typical reaction regarding the relationship she received from young fans was overwhelmingly positive and encouraging, often inquiring as to when the characters would reconcile after a breakup. She expressed her personal wish that her character's relationship would serve as an Example of color blindness for the world. In 2015 she reprised the role in one episode for the sequel series, Girl Meets World.
