He is Editor-in-Chief of Daily Sceptic. He has been involved in several controversies, such as his promotion of "progressive eugenics" in 2015. He is the author of the popular memoir How To Lose Friends & Alienate People.

He was not popular growing up and was a poor student. He graduated from the University of Oxford. He received an acceptance letter by mistake, which they honored due to moral obligation. He worked for The Times for six months before co-founding the London magazine Modern Review. After it dissolved, he worked for a number of publications such as Vanity Fair, the Daily Mail and The Spectator.
