De Passe's success career story started at Motown, where she served as Creative Assistant to the company founder, Berry Gordy. In her early tenure there, de Passe brought the Jackson 5 to Gordy's attention during their time with Motown and then she became instrumental in taking the record label to television. Suzanne De Passe was gradually rising through the ranks of the company, eventually becoming the CEO of Motown Productions. By the mid 70s, she was already the key person in the careers of numerous artists like Lionel Richie, Rick James, the Commodores, Teena Marie, the Dazz Band and DeBarge.
