One of his earliest roles in his career as an actor was in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) where he played a reporter looking into the Jason murders. He also played the father of James in James and the Giant Peach. Culp also played Major Hayes on Star Trek: Enterprise (2003 – 2004). Culp has portrayed the late Robert F. Kennedy twice—once in the film Thirteen Days (2000) and previously in the made-for-TV movie Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996). He briefly played the role of Brian Hamilton on the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless. During the 7th Season Championship game on Celebrity Poker Showdown, Culp won the championship.
