His collaboration with Performance Racing Industry Magazine founder Steve Lewis jumpstarted both his career and that of his #9 Racing team.
He survived a serious injury at the 1995 Indianapolis 500, but tragically died in his van in a head-on collision near Auckland, New Zealand.
