She graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, and then went on to graduate from the Rio Hondo Police Academy. She began her professional career as a cop working for the Los Angeles County Marshal Department. From there, she went on to work in the Sheriff's Department. She was subsequently hired to work in the Court Services Division. In the early 90s, she became Senior Deputy. She also spent six years at the Beverly Hills Courthouse, where she supervised security planning and implementation, as well as staff, for such high profile cases as Winona Ryder's trial.
