Con man of the Wild West who went out in a spectacular shootout on Juneau Wharf, Alaska.
He operated a number of scams, from rigged gambling establishments, to shell games, and was particularly known for a game where he'd wrap bars of soap in different denominations of money.
After he moved his operation to the Alaska of the gold rush era, he moved with resistance from a vigilante committee, in a shootout that left both him and his shooter dead.
He was born into a well-to-do family in Coweta County, Georgia.
He was mentioned in an episode of the HBO series Deadwood, starring Timothy Olyphant.
