Frye is best known for his role as Steve in the 1982 blockbuster classic "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial". He also co-starred in long running stage productions, two consecutive TV productions, and "Little House on the Prairie". Frye retired from the film industry in 1988 and entered into social work. In 1993, he met his spouse Michael Alexander and adopted their son Logan Frye Alexander in 2003.
