British actor who portrayed Mr. Salt in the classic film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. He was also known as Planchet in The Three Musketeers.
He started on the stage, appearing in 1960 in the play Sparrows Can't Sing. He would also be a part of the 1963 film adaptation of that play.
He was known to British audiences as a frequent comedic actor on shows such as Doctor at Large, Man About the House, and George and Mildred.
He was married to Carmel Cryan and they had three daughters. He was with his wife until he died in a riding accident during the filming of The Return of the Musketeers.
He appeared in the 1978 film The Hound of the Baskervilles. Peter Cook starred as the famous detective Sherlock Holmes in the film.
