He graduated from Western Oregon University in 2008. After school, he became a bouncer at a nightclub, where he was introduced to the Strongman competitions.
In 2013 and 2014, he finished second in America's Strongest Man competition. At the 2013 competition, he lifted a career-best 4 reps of 750lbs in the deadlift.
He was born in Santa Cruz, California. He attended Aptos High School in Aptos, California, where he played football and track and field.
Both he and powerlifter Brian Shaw have represented the U.S in multiple World's Strongest Man competitions since 2010.
