Former member of the Dutch Royal Family and younger brother of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. He was the second son of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus as well as the grandson of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and Prince Bernhard.
His collegiate studies took him to the University of California, Berkeley, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam.
He was tragically killed at the age of 44 after being trapped under an avalanche while skiing in Lech, Austria.
He was married to Mabel Wisse Smit from 2004 to his death. He and Mabel had two daughters together, Emma Luana and Joanna Zaria.
His mother Beatrix served as Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 to 2013.
