Before beginning his music career as a Saxophonist for his father's touring band, he learned to play both the piano and the clarinet.
From 1993 until 1997, he held Jazz Report Magazine's "Best Alto Saxophonist" title.
He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Margaret Yeo and bandleader Paul Perry.
He is a contemporary of fellow Canadian Saxophonist Garth Hudson.
