Singer and guitarist best known as a founding member of the post-punk duo Timbuk3, whose most popular single is “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades." After the band's breakup in 1995, he released solo albums like 1997's Pat MacDonald Sleeps With His Guitar.
He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and formed the band Pat MacDonald & The Essentials in 1980.
His band Timbuk3 was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1987.
He married and had children with singer and fiddle player Barbara Kooyman, who has been a member of Timbuk3.
He is also a respected songwriter who has worked with big-name artists like Stewart Copeland.
