Former Soviet Gymnast who rose to fame as the all-around gold medalist at the 1985 World Championships. She also earned a gold medal in the balance beam at the 1985 European Championships and at the 1986 World Cup Final.
Originally a figure skater, she began practicing skating at the age of six. After beginning gymnastics at the suggestion of her Choreographer, she would begin competing internationally for the USSR in 1983.
Following her retirement from competitive gymnastics, she began working as a Choreographer, coach, and judge.
Her daughter, Anastasia Zurkalova, is an Actress.
She was contemporaries with East German gymnast Maxi Gnauck.
