Affiliated at various points in his career with the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Social Democratic Party, and the Czech Party of Civic Rights, this Politician took office in 2013 as the third President of the Czech Republic. Previously, he had served as his country's Prime Minister.

From 1996 until 1998, he served as the Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies.
