Russian Neoclassical Sculptor who was active during the Age of Enlightenment. He sculpted Alexander Suvorov as youthful Mars.
He trained at the Imperial Academy of Arts with Anton Losenko and then traveled to Rome.
His best known work may be the gilt bronze statue of Samson Rending the Lion's Jaws.
He never married.
He and Alexander Blok both worked in Saint Petersburg.
