Most well known for his role as Munkustrap in the Broadway and video productions of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, he is also notable for his Broadway performances in Kiss Me, Kate, Swing!, My Favorite Year, Miss Saigon and Laughing Room Only.
Before beginning his acting career, he attended the University of Michigan on a diving scholarship and trained with an Olympic diving coach. He later trained at the University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music and debuted on Broadway in the 2007 revival of A Chorus Line.
He performed in national and international tours of A Chorus Line and West Side Story. A lyricist and composer as well as a performer, he worked on musicals titled Hit It, Mike!; Vegas Organic; and The Old Dead Five.
He and his two older sisters and one older brother grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He and Hinton Battle were both in the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon.
