Matthew Graham is also the co-creator of the BBC/Kudos Film and Television science fiction television series Life on Mars. He started his career as a writer for the soap opera EastEnders and the television series Byker Grove which were both on BBC One. Graham wrote for the TV series This Life from 1996 to 1997, City Central in 1998, and The Last Train in 1999.

From 1992 to 2002 he wrote the television series EastEnders. In 2003 Graham wrote for the TV series P.O.W. He co-created and wrote the series Life on Mars from 2006 to 2009.
