Of Tongan heritage, he was born in Auckland, New Zealand and played for the Otara Scorpions and the Otahuhu Leopards at club level in Auckland. Educated at Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate, he joined the Warriors' development squad at the age of 16.

Trivia

In 2015, he became the first player to score 10 or more tries in 10 consecutive seasons since the Australian competition (later renamed the NRL) started in 1908. He became only the third player to appear in more than 200 NRL games for the Warriors and he set the record for most tries scored for both the Warriors and the Kiwis.
