He began his career in 2007, writing poems relating to his immediate life experiences. He has cited Ludwig van Beethoven's 5th Symphony as inspiration throughout his beginning and career.
His second released recording was an extended play entitled Monologues.
He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Mark Stephen MacAllister, a preacher, and Jody McEwen MacAllister. He grew up alongside his younger sister, Bree.
He has cited filmmaker Wes Anderson for influencing his style and content on his 2014 album release, titled Correspondence (A Fiction).
