Having acquired his fortune through his investments in the real estate, chemical and diamond industry, Leviev is now the Chairman of the board of directors and controlling shareholder in Africa Israel Investments Ltd. Luckily, the London court favored Leviev, ordering Gaydamak to pay Leviev's legal fees. Born Lev Avnerovich Leviev on July 30, 1956 in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR, Soviet Union, he is of Jewish ancestry. Thus, he is president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Russia and has made major philanthropic donations for Hasidic Jewish causes in Eastern Europe and Israel. Currently based in London England, Lev is married and a father of nine children.
