Popular film and television actor best known for his role as "Pancho" on the TV Western series, "The Cisco Kid."
He was born into a prominent California family: his great-uncle had served as mayor of Los Angeles, and his grandfather had been elected Governor of the California territory.
He was elected to the California Parks Commission as a result of his successful work as a Conservationist. Later, a state park and a beach in Malibu were named after him.
He had one child with his wife, Edith, to whom he was married from 1913 until her death in 1953.
He owed much of his success on "The Cisco Kid" to to the clever writing of O. Henry, who was credited with more than 150 episodes of the show.
