McReynolds started his NASCAR career in 1975 and worked his way up to become a crew chief by 1985. From 1985 to 2000 he was a Winston Cup crew chief and earned 23 Cup wins. McReynolds won his first Cup at Watkins Glen International in 1998 with driver Ricky Rudd.
Along with driver Davey Allison he won 11 races from 1991 to 1993 including the 1992 Daytona 500.
