Van Horn was a three-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year from 1995 through 1997. He earned first-team All-American honors in 1997 and had his number 44 jersey retired by the school. The Philadelphia 76ers chose Van Horn with the second overall pick during the 1997 NBA Draft. He was promptly traded to the New Jersey Nets the night he was drafted.
