Late 19th and early 20th-century Slovene writer who became known for his poetry, translations, and plays. His dramatic works include Medeja and Rejenka; his poetry collections include Pesmi and Dunajski Soneti.
After finishing his studies in Vienna, he taught in Josefstadt between 1878 and 1901.
His introduction to a collection of France Preseren's poems discusses the importance of Preseren's work to the development of a Slovene national identity.
He grew up in Lower Carniola and began his studies in Ljubljana.
He became an honorary member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, an organization co-founded by Franjo Racki.
