Tobias took classes at the Art Institute of Chicago while in high school. He worked as an artist for The Real Ghostbusters comic book series. Tobias joined Midway Games and went on to work on the original arcade version of the game Smash TV. He created the early storyline, themes, and settings for the Mortal Kombat series. He also designed all the characters from the early games through Mortal Kombat 4 in 1997. Some of the most popular characters he created include Goro, Raiden, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Johnny Cage.
