John Lund was born in Rochester, New York in 1906 and had a tumultuous childhood. He dropped out of school at 14 and tried his hand at various jobs before getting a small part in a local production. This led to a successful career in Hollywood, where he was cast in leading roles in films such as To Each His Own (1946) and A Foreign Affair (1948). He also wrote the book and lyrics for the successful musical revue "New Faces of 1943". After his star began to decline in 1951, Lund moved to radio, playing the titular insurance investigator of "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" from 1952-1954. He retired from acting in 1963 and spent his remaining years in Coldwater Canyon, Hollywood Hills, where he died in 1992.
