Scottish businessman and Entrepreneur who is responsible for the development and success of the profitable engineering company Clyde Blowers plc. He won the OBE in 2001 and was the recipient of the Scottish International Business Achievement award in 2006.
He left school at 16 to take up an engineering apprenticeship with Weir Pumps and later received a BSc Degree in Technology and Business Studies at Strathclyde University.
While at the helm of the Clyde Bowers company he acquired the entire Fluid & Power Division of Fortune 500 multi-industry company Textron, in a deal worth over $1 billion.
He had three children from his first marriage before marrying his second wife, Shona.
in 2008 The Daily Record reported that he had overtaken Tom Hunter as Scotland's richest man with an estimated fortune of 800 million pounds.
