During the 1980s and 1990s, this French Socialist Party Politician served as both Minister of Culture and Minister of Education and also represented France's sixth district in the National Assembly.

Late in the first decade of the 21st Century, Lang helped draft French constitutional changes that were approved by President Nicolas Sarkozy. Sarkozy subsequently appointed Lang to envoy assignments to Cuba and North Korea.
