He married five times: first to Katie Lee Nuckols in 1960, then to Jill St. John in 1967, then to Gretchen Roberts in 1970, then to Kathryn Simmons in 1977, and finally to Kim Ely in 1982. He has two daughters, Nicole and Crystal.
In the 1970s, he began releasing more cover songs, including popular tracks by such artists as Randy Newman and Carole King.
