In 1934, she launched an unsuccessful campaign for a United States Congressional seat from Utah. A decade later, she joined Utah's Republican Committee.
She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The daughter of a gold miner, she grew up in Kimberly, Utah. Her two marriages - to Roy Fletcher Priest and Sidney william Stevens - resulted in a total of four children, including television Actress Pat Priest.
She played a key role in mobilizing female voters to support Dwight D. Eisenhower in his 1952 presidential campaign.
