In 2013, Philip Morris and Japan Tobacco International purchased 40% of Megapolis for $1.5 billion. Kesaev and his partner Sergei Katsiev own the remaining 60%. A graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Kesaev founded Mercury as a food and alcohol importer and is now chairman of the fast-growing supermarket chain Dixy, having replaced Katsiev in 2015.
