Chinese diplomat known as "China's Schindler" who saved more than one thousand Jews during the Holocaust. His heroic actions were recognized in 2000 with the "Righteous among the Nations" award.
He obtained a Ph.D. in political economics in 1932 and began working as a diplomat with the Foreign Ministry in 1935. He was first stationed in Turkey and later Austria.
He issued over 2000 visas to Shanghai to allow Austrian Jews to escape the country, against the orders of his superiors.
He had one son, Ho Man-To, and one daughter, Ho Man-Li.
He shared title of "Righteous Among the Nations" with Chiune Sugihara, among others.
