Remembered for his participation in the Neo-Concrete and Conceptual Art movements, Oiticica is famous for his paintings, sculptures, and art installations. His best-known works include sculptures titled Tropicalia and Bolides that viewers could physically explore.
Early in his career, he joined a prominent group of Brazilian artists known as the Grupo Frente.
In the early 2000s, posthumous exhibitions of Oiticica's artwork occurred at both London's Tate Modern gallery and Houston's Museum of Fine Arts.
He was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and he later lived and worked in both New York City and London.
